"Take your blankets and leave before July 21": Mamata warns defectors
During the annual Rath Yatra festival in Odisha’s Puri, a stampede-like situation erupted on the Grand Road, also known as Bada Danda, on Thursday. An overwhelming surge of devotees led to massive congestion, leaving at least 200 people struggling with acute breathing difficulties.
The Special Rescue Unit (SRU) teams were immediately dispatched to the site to initiate emergency rescue operations. Personnel successfully evacuated the distressed devotees and shifted them to the Puri Medical facility, where 120 individuals have been admitted for medical treatment.
While unofficial sources indicate that one person is feared dead, local authorities have not yet confirmed any casualties. Security and administrative officials are actively monitoring the situation on the ground while scaling up emergency response and crowd control measures to ensure safety.
